TRAFFIC misery and delays for drivers have started this week on the old A3 in Liphook, when a three-way traffic light system at the junction of Station Road and Portsmouth Road was introduced on Wednesday.
Hampshire's Highways authority informed the Herald that a new pavement has to be laid outside the Moss Court site, which requires the traffic lights to remain there until the work is done over the next two weeks.
Residents in Liphook have already suffered months of traffic congestion along the Portsmouth Road, caused by numerous vans parked on a daily basis outside the new Moss Court development, on the site of the former Jet Garage.
Since development of the site started in the summer, vehicles, vans and site equipment have been parked along the main road from dawn to dusk, narrowing the old A3 down to one lane for traffic and blocking visibility at the busy junction with Station Road.
Drivers have experienced near misses with oncoming traffic, despite travelling at the allowed speed of 30mph along the narrow road and have dealt with poor visibility at the junction with Station Road.
In addition parking spaces in Station Road have been taken over by vans and trucks, leaving very little room to park for anyone needing to use the shops.
The car park adjacent to Newtown Village Surgery is also generally full up.
Clarke Gammon Wellers the estate agents for Moss Court, will be opening the show flat after the roadworks have been carried out, but do not have a final completion date for the 10, one and two-bedroom apartments.
