BLACKMOOR Golf Club has a new captain.
And Saturday’s ’drive in’ was described as an historic occasion because, for the first time in the club’s history, a female club captain, Linda Frost, was appointed.
To mark the handover, she stayed with tradition and drove off the first tee.
The distance was correctly guessed by Michael Cave in the drive-in sweep, which raised money for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance - the new captain’s chosen charity. Ms Frost was preceded by Max Gardner, the newly elected juniors’ captain; Alan Hurst, the seniors’ captain and Anne Fisk, the ladies’ captain.
Cancer Research UK was the charity selected by Blackmoor’s previous captain Alex Greenaway and the previous ladies’ captain Clare Briscoe. Their efforts were boosted by club member Lynnette Knight who personally contributed more than £2,000 to the total sum of £12,344 by losing five stone during her sponsored slim.
