ALTON Town Mayor Dean Phillips hands over a giant Easter egg to Jonathan McDonald, proprietor of Austen’s cafe in Lenten Street, who won it in the Alton Lions Eggstravaganza.
Designed to raise funds for Bushy Leaze Children and Families Centre, the Lions’ annual Easter raffle sees giant eggs distributed to local pubs and businesses in Alton and the surrounding area, which invite customers to Guess the Name of the Lion, in a bid to win the egg. The second prize winner wins a soft toy lion which, in this case, went to Ruby Phillips.
This particular egg was raffled off by the Alton Herald and, according to Mr McDonald, was to be broken up and used on Saturday as shard toppings on cones from Austen’s new soft ice cream machine.
