FARNHAM Lions has again collected a “huge” amount of food for the less fortunate this Christmas thanks to generous responses from many hundreds of households.
Donations to the Lions’ Christmas Food Parcels 2015 appeal are sorted, parcelled up and re-distributed to families in need, often making the difference between some degree of misery and inner warmth on Christmas Day.
Geoff Jeal of the Lions said: “This year we again supplied a record number of almost 250 grocery parcels, made up from donations of food by people living in the Upper Weydon, Weydon Hill Road, Green Lane, Broomleaf Road, Badshot Lea, Weybourne and the Folly Hill areas of Farnham.
“Having sorted all the food, and made up the parcels we then delivered them for onward delivery by various local support agencies such as Home School Link Workers, Sure Start, Family Support, Farnham CAB, Meals on Wheels and Surrey Youth Support, not to mention many local schools.
“Thank you Farnham for the generous support and the well wishes from many contributors were really very gratefully received. Watch out for next year’s collection which will take place on one Sunday morning in December 2016.”
