After last week's humiliation, when they were bowled out for 44, Liphook restored some pride with a creditable draw against Bashley.

And Liphook secured enough points to take them off the bottom of the table.

New Forest side Bashley were asked to bat at Ripsley Park and Liphook were relieved when Tim Wheatley dismissed ex-Hampshire player Andy Sexton early on.

But then Neil Thurgood (89) and Graham Pardey added a steady 113 for the second wicket.

Aussie grade 'A' player Luke Ronchi helped push the innings along with 45 off 36 balls, but Wheatley and Alan Crawford (5-61) ran through the later batting as the visitors chased quick runs and the innings closed on 220-9 after 66 overs.

The home team lost Steve Riley with the score on 16, but Chris Wright was in fine form and Alistair Gray joined him in a stand of 78 for the second wicket, putting Liphook in a strong position.

But after Wright's dismissal at 94-2, they were unable to pick up the run-rate up against some tight spin bowling by Dale Middleton and Sexton.

The middle order made a spirited effort, but wickets fell at regular intervals as both teams went for victory,

Nick Gay hit an entertaining 21 from 10 balls before the home team settled for the draw, ending on 197-7, still 23 runs behind. Gray was still there at the finish, having played the anchor role for 82 not out.
