A YEAR-round litter picking initiative ‘Bloomin Litter’ proposed by Farnham resident, John Ely, was praised by Farnham Town Council members and is hoped to be promoted over the next couple of months.

Members agreed that it should be included in the 2016 edition of the Farnham Residents’ Guide for maximum exposure and that the purchasing of more litter pickers’ gloves and high visibility jackets with sleeves, was also in the pipelines.

Town clerk Iain Lynch said: “The ‘Bloomin Litter’ project is to really celebrate the role of individuals who are going round the town, unannounced and as unsung heroes really, just collecting litter in their local communities.

“Quite a lot of you adopt the roads that you walk on as you go down to the shops and pick up litter, while others spend a couple of hours going around the block picking up litter.

“The community group feel it’s right that we work with these individuals and help them with things like high-vis jackets, so they can do it safely. That will also have the benefit that they will be covered by the town council’s insurance as volunteers.

“We need to recognise the good work which is done by so many people around Farnham. That’s an initiative that will be promoted over the next couple of months.”
