STAFF from Lindford’s Spar store joined pupils from The Holme Church of England Primary School, and others, to clear litter from the streets.
The team was also made up of representatives from confectionary firm Wrigley (which has bases in Plymouth and Reading), Convenience Store magazine and the Keep Britain Tidy campaign.
Equipped with bin bags, litter pickers and suitable attire, the group rallied together on Tuesday, July 18, to tidy the village.
This is the third consecutive year Wrigley, Convenience Store and Keep Britain Tidy have joined forces to help shopkeepers.
This year, Julian Taylor-Green, from Spar in Lindford, helped to arrange the litter-picking event to support his neighbourhood.
Senior corporate affairs manager at Wrigley Alex West said: “We are encouraged to see more and more local retailers enthused about keeping their local community clean and tidy.
“It’s important for retailers to do something positive to improve their local area and scheduling litter picks goes a long way to support the community.
“Julian’s team - with the help from Ruth (Worswick, headteacher) and her pupils (from The Holme in Headley) - were extremely enthusiastic and did a great job clearing the streets. An hour or two goes a long way in helping the community.”
Mr Taylor-Green added: “It was fantastic that so many people were involved in picking litter from the streets - it’s something, as a retailer, I feel passionate about. With help from Wrigley, Keep Britain Tidy, Convenience Store, my staff and The Holme School, the litter-picking event was a success with many full bags of litter.”
Ms Worswick said: “Keeping the local community clean and tidy is extremely important for myself and the pupils at The Holme School.
“It was fantastic to see members of the community come together to tidy up. It showed what great community support we have. The pupils are encouraged to clean up litter so it was great to have my pupils involved in.”
