THERE were cries of ‘c’est formidable’ and ‘magnifique’ heard from the open windows of the Culver Room at Farnham library recently.
Several young artists, encouraged by Monsieur Claude Monet (the Friends of Farnham Library’s dramatic artist, Gilly Stewart) were painting copies of the artist’s Waterlilies and the Bridge at Giverny.
The children were told a little of the life and times of Monet and his impressionist painting as they were helped and encouraged to paint in a similar style.
At mid morning everyone enjoyed some chocolate eclairs, strawberry meringues and pains au chocolat.
Music from the French composer Debussy played in the background, which all helped to add to the cafe atmosphere.
All the children thoroughly enjoyed their morning’s work and clamoured to have another painting session soon.
The Friends plan to hold a Saturday morning art workshop at the library with the theme of another famous painter in the autumn term.
Numbers will be limited to just 10 children per session. Any parents who would like further information or would like their children to be included in future sessions are asked to telephone Claire East, chairman of the Friends’ group on 01252 724805.
