FARNHAM residents will go to the polls on Thursday, May 4 to elect their Surrey County Council representatives for the next four years.
Here we include personal statements by the four candidates vying for election in Farnham North:
*DAVE BEYNON - GREEN PARTY
I have lived in Folly Hill with my wife and two daughters since 2013 and lead the digital team for a locally-based charity. My aim in standing for Farnham North is to highlight the solutions the Green Party offers across our main Surrey Manifesto issues of the local economy, transport, and public services – we are not just about the environment. But I would tackle local environmental causes for concern like building on greenfield sites and, with a large Conservative majority in our county council, I think the people of Farnham North deserve the increased transparency and oversight I will deliver.
*MIKE HODGE - CONSERVATIVES
I first moved to Heath End, Farnham in 1981 and now live in Upper Hale, where I love the community feeling and proximity to Farnham Park.
I’m campaigning to tackle north Farnham’s litter problem, improve the state of the roads, protect against flooding and make the area safer and more pedestrian friendly.
North Farnham faces many challenges, but I am determined to work for a safer more pleasing environment for residents, and by standing for election as a County Councillor I believe I can make a difference for the community I care about.
*STEPHEN SPENCE (FARNHAM RESIDENTS)
Farnham has suffered for far too long. National party lines have no place in local government. It’s time to do things differently by supporting Farnham Residents, where individuals from diverse views and opinions come together to discuss things with one common goal - wanting the best for Farnham and its residents.
After 15 years in a town my family and I love, I want to use my skills and experience over thirty years as an organiser, negotiator and senior manager, including at Equity, the non-party political actor’s union, to get things done, against the odds, for local communities at Surrey.
*ROB WALTON (LIB DEMS)
I joined the Liberal Democrats after the EU referendum. We are the only outward-looking, progressive, mainstream party in British politics - that’s as true in Farnham as it is in Westminster. I have lived and worked in Farnham for 5 years with my partner Al and Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Daisy. During this time I helped to establish and lead a business that has grown to become one of the town’s leading private employers. If elected I will break through the Tory’s strangle-hold on the council to work with any who will join me to build a Farnham fit for the future.
