SURREY residents will go to the polls on Thursday, May 4 to elect their county council representatives for the next four years.

Here we include personal statements by the four candidates vying for election in Waverley Eastern Villages:

*FABIAN COLE - LIB DEMS

Aged 25, Fabian has lived in Cranleigh for 12 years attending local and Chichester College and now works as a software developer.

“Single party rule by the Conservatives has failed Surrey, as we have seen

in the recent fiasco of failed secret talks with Westminster for extra

funding. As a young person, I think that the lack of long-term planning

is making living and buying a house in Surrey harder. As part of the

Liberal Democrat group I will represent young people in the area and

particular work against cuts to school budgets.”

*LEWIS CURTIS - LABOUR

Godalming College politics student and member of equality and diversity commission.

“I will make sure the public funds are spent more efficiently and there are no more large cuts to emergency services. Unlike the Conservatives I believe in investing in our emergency services.

“I also believe investing in our local train and bus services. If a suitable private sector provider cannot be found a Labour Council would set up and use a not-for-profit bus operator. We will continue to push for London’s Oyster Card zone 6 to be extended to include Surrey’s commuter routes.”

*VICTORIA YOUNG - CONSERVATIVES

I trained as a solicitor with a City Firm and moved to Surrey ten years ago. I now live in Wonersh with my husband, two daughters, as well as two naughty dachshunds, six chickens and a long-suffering cat.

Since being elected in 2013, I have focused on improving our roads. This work is not complete and I wish to continue to improve the road network. I am also concerned to help everyone get access to workable broadband speeds, and to support the elderly and vulnerable in rural areas. Finally I am shocked at the amount of litter on our country lanes and I will campaign for more enforcement and better education.

*JOHN WOODRUFF WALKER - UKIP

Dr Walker is a consultant interventional and diagnostic radiologist who specialises in radiology and treating gynaecological cancer and fibroid embolisation, using MRI, CT and ultrasound.

He works for the NHS at the Royal Surrey County Hospital and St Luke’s Cancer Centre in Guildford, and in his private practice in London’s Harley Street.

He qualified as a doctor at the Middlesex Hospital in 1970 and trained in radiology at the Groote-Schuur Hospital in Cape Town.

He has a Silver Merit Award from the NHS and and NHS Lifetime Achievement Awards.
