THE Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire took to the dancefloor when he visited the Kingsley Centre on Monday, meeting participants, parents, staff, trustees and volunteers.

Earlier, Nigel Atkinson he had been taken on a tour of the centre by a volunteer, and he met the Monday Chainreaction disability group, learning about their routine.

Mr Atkinson heard about trips, independent living in the community, cooking, workshops, and topical projects, together with many other aspects of the group’s work.

When several participants then went into their Monday dance group, he joined them. At the end of the visit Mr Atkinson, the Queen’s representative in Hampshire, was treated to a English tea.

Events co-ordinator Jill Trout said: “We all learnt the many duties of a lord lieutenant, and we were joined by the editor of Kingsworld Magazine, parents of participants, members of the local community, and everyone else at the Kingsley Centre.”
