According to a police spokesman, the Dutch-registered vehicle was travelling along the Blacknest Road from the direction of Bentley Station at around 6 am when, ignoring all warning signs, it forced its way under the low railway bridge.
The impact took the roof off the container, inflicting damage to the underside of the bridge.
Trading under the name of Harry Vos, the vehicle turned left at the Jolly Farmer crossroads, before grinding to a halt. It was empty at the time.
The driver, a 39-year-old man from Wlockwek in Poland, was said to have stayed the night in Bentley before heading out of the village towards Blacknest and the A325.
He was later arrested and gave a positive breath test.
Having failed to provide a specimen at the police station he was taken straight to Aldershot magistrates court where he was bailed for one week and subjected to an interim licence disqualification.
Damage to the bridge was described by Railtrack as "superficial".
According to South West Trains the incident affected the 06.16 service out of Alton which was delayed by 15 minutes until given the all-clear.
