EAST Hampshire District Council has secured lottery funding to provide play and leisure activities for young people in the district. Some of the cash has gone toward buying state-of- the-art mobile dance mats and activity walls, which will be used as part of the Get Activ8d holiday programme in the district. The mobile mats will enable sessions, for eight to 16 year olds, to be run in schools, village halls and community centres. Kirsty Cope, the community project worker (sport and play) for EHDC, said: "It is important for East Hampshire District Council to provide new activities and the new dance mats and activity walls are proving really popular throughout the country. "The mobile dance mats can now offer local young people a fun work out to their favourite music in their local area." Get Activ8d is launching the new dance mats during the May half-term school holidays at free sessions in Bentworth on Tuesday, Bordon on Wednesday, Liphook on Thursday, and East Meon on Friday. Organisers say no dance experience is required, but participants are asked to wear appropriate clothing and bring a drink. Two sessions will be held at each centre per day, from noon-12.45pm and 1pm-1.45pm, but places are limited. To book, call 01730 234341.
