SENTENCE on a Loxwood man, who abducted a 12-year-old Liss girl he met through an internet chat room, was adjourned for a month by a judge on Monday.
Van driver Richard Wait (32) had earlier pleaded guilty at Winchester Crown court to abducting the girl on November 6 last year.
Wait had taken the girl out for the day as he drove around making deliveries – but her mother reported her missing.
Mr Robert Bryan, prosecuting, told judge Patrick Hooton on Monday: "There is a linked case which has yet to be resolved in the magistrates court.
"The Crown would invite your honour to adjourn sentence on this case pending resolution of the other case."
Judge Hooton granted Wait bail but ordered that he should be banned from going on the internet.
He was also banned from going anywhere near the girl's home in Liss, as part of his bail conditions.
At the earlier hearing, Miss Louise D'Arcy, defending, told the court that at the time of the offence Wait was having problems with his wife.
He was suffering from depression and had attempted to take his life in December last year.
Miss D'Arcy said that Wait's general practitioner thought he was not now a suicide risk.
Judge Hooton ordered that the girl in the case should not be identified.
