A WOMAN has had a whopping 13.5 inches of her hair chopped off after her mum was diagnosed with stage four cervical cancer.

Lucinda Gould, aged 26 and from Bordon, had her hair cut at Natty B’s Hair Studio in Chalet Hill, Bordon, and donated it to the Little Princess Trust which provides real hair wigs to children and young people with hair loss and funds research into childhood cancer.

She also raised more than £700 for the oncology department at Queen Alexandra Hospital through the Portsmouth Hospitals Charity and is encouraging women to go to their smear tests.

Lucinda’s mum, 53 year old Karen Chiverton, who lives in Blackmoor, was diagnosed with ‘Stage 4A’ cervical cancer in March. ‘Stage 4A’ is when the cancer has spread to nearby organs, according to Cancer Research UK.

Through chemotherapy, Karen “lost the majority of her hair”, Lucinda told the Herald.

“Seeing her go through that was really, really hard for her and for us all as well.

“She’s finished her chemotherapy and radiotherapy but she still has different medical treatment from the oncology team.

“My nan has also received treatment for breast cancer there as well at the moment, so if I can do anything to help it’s good.”

Before her hair cut, Lucinda, who is a full-time mum to three year old daughter Olivia Gould, said she was “nervous because I hate having short hair”.

“I had short hair when I was a child when I was only four – really short hair like a boy so I was like ‘I really don’t want it again’.

“But my mum’s been through a lot worse so I’ll do it for her,” Lucinda continued.

After getting her hair cut on Thursday (September 26) Lucinda told the Herald her new do was “going to take some getting used to”. And despite originally planning to have 12 inches cut off, Lucinda ended up donating 13.5 inches of hair.

She added Natty B’s Hair Studio were “great” and donated the cut free of charge, which Lucinda said was “lovely”.
