THE Petersfield professional gambler who scooped horse racingÕs lottery bonanza last week, netting more than £470,000, missed his chance to boost his win by another £340,000.
Chris Broom and two friends shared £473,709 after picking six winners as part of the ToteÕs big weekend bet - the Scoop6 .
Chris combined his knowledge of racing with a fair slice of luck to be the only winner of the big win fund, and in doing so earned his syndicate a shot at the £342,491 bonus prize last Saturday.
This meant picking the winner of the 3-30 pm at Cheltenham to take the winnings to more than £816,000 and make the Clean Sweep Syndicate the biggest winners in the history of the bet.
But, sadly for Chris, his horse did not cross the line first.
Tote spokesman Jeremy Scott told The Herald: ÒChrisÕ horse was going very well for about three-quarters of the race, but eventually did not make it over the line first.Ó
