AFTER winning 19 of their 22 matches since entering the I'Anson last season, Harting tasted defeat for the first time as Lurgashall pulled off a nail-biting win on Saturday.
In this all-Sussex clash, it was the Lurgashall seamers who won the day, notably Adam Sharpe. The tallest and quickest of the Lurgashall bowlers took 5 for 24 in 12 overs as Harting, set a modest target of 88, collapsed from 54-1 to 84 all out.
Batting first in the top-of-the-table clash, Lurgashall were in trouble at 12-3, but man-of-the-match Adam Sharpe made a vital 34 and gave his side a total they could bowl at.
Edwards and Colin Pay had bowled well for Harting who then seemed well in control as Simon Kyte hit a fluent 38. But Sharpe and Aaron Evans had other ideas and with old stager Rory Lawson grabbing an important wicket, Harting began to slide. Skipper Trevor Pay could not quite pull it off and Harting were all out for 84, losing by just three runs. The return game will be interesting.
