AN Alton-based carer took the plunge and had her head shaved to raise money for a cancer unit.

Lynne Last, a staff member at Home Instead Senior Care in the town decided to support the

efforts of Heydays Pre-school in Four Marks, which her son attends, to raise funds for the Basing Unit at North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke.

The Basing Unit provides life-saving treatments for those suffering from all types of cancer, and offers emotional and physical support.

Heydays Pre-school staff and committee decided to give the money raised during the children’s annual sports day to the unit after one of their much loved colleagues, Laura, the mother of two children at Four Marks School and Lynn’s best friend, was diagnosed with cancer.

Lynn said: “The Basing Unit has been providing her with such amazing support and advice. The staff go above and beyond to make this

incredibly difficult process much more manageable.”

As part of a fundraising event on Friday, July 21, Lynne decided to Brave the Shave for Basing and lose her hair: “Although this is a choice for me, losing your hair is one of the hurdles cancer sufferers have to cope with on a daily basis.”

Lynne smashed her her target of £500, raising more than £3,100, but she would happily accept further donations.

On behalf of the Basing Unit she thanked everyone who supported her effort, and in particular Mike Colvin, of Home Instead Senior Care, who sponsored the event.
