STELLA Black from the Macular Society visited Right at Home Guilford and Farnham to explain more about macular degeneration, which is the most common cause of sight loss in the UK, explaining the difference between wet and dry macular conditions and the warning signs to look out for.

Stella explained about the new technology that is being developed to help people with macular degeneration, and gave everyone a simple test to take away which helps spot the early signs of changes in vision.

However, the real eye-opener was when Stella handed out special glasses which gave everyone a taste of what the world would look like with macular degeneration, with one member commenting “it was horrible – it felt like I wanted to rub and clear my eyes all the time, everything was a blur”.
