TO celebrate the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta by King John, Farnham College and the Old Farnhamians’ Association have combined to present a lecture by one of the UK’s foremost experts on the subject.

Dr Sophie Ambler from the University of East Anglia’s school of history will travel to the sixth form college in Menin Way, Farnham on Sunday, September 20, to give a lecture on ’Uncovering the Charter and its World’.

The lecture will focus on the Magna Carta Project, a landmark investigation into the context, production and reception of Magna Carta headed by a group of distinguished history professors including Dr Ambler.

Cyril Trust of the Old Farnhamians’ Association said: “This will be a major lecture in Farnham and it is hoped that local people will support the event.

“It has been agreed with the speaker, college and Old Boys to give the proceeds to the Nepaleses Earthquake Appeal, which is appropriate as there are many Nepalese students at the college.”

The lecture will be held in the main jall of Farnham College and will commence at 3.30pm on Sunday, September 20. Tickets cost £5 for adults, with students coming free of charge, available from Farnham College by calling 01252 716988.
