THE Old Farnhamians’ Association, with the support of Farnham Sixth Form College, recently presented a cheque to the Barpak Foundation, after raising £1,000 during their Magna Carta lecture held at the college last month.

An expert on the subject, guest speaker Dr Sophie Ambler, from the School of History at the University of East Anglia, gave the lecture which was attended by more than 100 guests.

The event was held to help those affected by the Nepal earthquake disaster earlier in the year, with proceeds going to the Barpak Foundation - which was set up in 2014 to support two orphan children from the village of Barpak. But now it has now become heavily involved in the rescue and relief effort after Barpak was badly hit by the earthquake in 2015, and 99 per cent of the buildings there were destroyed.

Mandhoj Gale, the media secretary of the Barpak Foundation was invited to Farnham Sixth Form College to receive the cheque from the college’s director, Dr Jason Jones.

He thanked the college and Old Farnhamians’ for this much-needed money and explained how instrumental it will be in support of their efforts to rebuild his home village, which is still subject to earth tremors and will take many years and a great deal of finance to rebuild.
