ONE of Alton's biggest employers is preparing to make 31 of its staff redundant.
The management at Maltby Engineering on Newman Lane claims the move was made necessary by the strength of the pound, which has made its product uncompetitive against European competitors. The component manufacturers now aim to increase productivity in an effort to become profitable.
