THE Maltings warmly welcomed over 250 people, aged two to 88, into its Barley Room for its famous Farnham Afternoon Tea get together.
During the day more than 200 cups of tea were poured, and dozens of mouth-watering cakes and scones, baked and donated, were gobbled up. There was also a bountiful collection of donations for the Farnham Foodbank.
As well as the complimentary refreshments, there was soulful harmonies and striking melodies from the group Little Iris, musical sisters Rachel and Helen Palmer, a Heritage Open Day exhibition and multiple pop-up craft activities.
Plus the Maltings Soundvault captured peoples’ stories and the soundscape in the room for their radio project.
Community groups Timebank, FAOS, Farnham Foodbank, Knit-wits, U3A, Age Concern and Meet Me at the Maltings were on hand to meet people as they joined the party, and free transport was available thanks to the Farnham hoppa bus.
Gavin Stride, director of Farnham Maltings, said: “We delight in creating opportunities for the town to meet and talk to each other. We do it because we know people feel safer and happier in a community where we get to know and care for one another.”
