A MAN has been charged following an attempted robbery in Alton during which the 67-year-old victim was stabbed.
Pawel Zimnicki, 22, of River View, Alton, has been charged with attempted robbery, possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place, and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning and was remanded in custody pending a Crown Court hearing in Winchester on February 10.
The alleged stabbing took place on December 28 on Old Odiham Road in Alton.
The victim had just left The Eight Bells pub on Church Street in the town arond 10pm and was walking home along the Old Odiham Road when, arriving close to the junction with Greenfields Avenue, he was approached by a man demanding money.
A struggle took place during which the victim was stabbed in the abdomen.
The attacker fled the scene on foot empty handed.
