A 30-year old man killed in a collision on the A31 Hogs Back at the weekend has been formally identified. He was James Broad from Whitehill in Hampshire. Surrey Police is investigating the circumstances of the fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the Farnham bound carriageway, prior to the turning for Puttenham (B3000). A black Peugeot 306 left the road into the central reservation and collided with several trees killing the male driver who was sole occupant of the car. Officers from the collision investigation unit are trying to establish when the fatal collision happened. It was drawn to police attention by a member of the public at about 12-30 pm on Saturday. Police had attended another incident nearby a few hours earlier, shortly after 3 am on Saturday, January 27, where a 35-year old male driver of a silver Vauxhall Zafira was arrested on suspicion of drinking and driving. Later the man was further arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail to April. At this stage, investigations are under way to establish whether the two incidents are connected. The A31 was closed between Guildford and Puttenham (on the Farnham bound carriageway) until around 9 pm on Saturday. Police are appealing for anyone who was using this stretch of road in the early hours of Saturday who thinks they may have see anything relating to any motoring incident, to contact the collision investigation unit on 01932 569922.
