RACHAEL Shaw will be swimming for 12 hours non-stop to raise as much as she can for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, on Thursday, June 30, at the Spirit Health Club in Farnborough.
Every year Rachael takes part in a charity challenge by running or long walks but due to back and knee injuries, she was unable to do any this year. So, the next thing Rachael could think of was a swim - and too really challenge herself she opted for a 12-hour swim.
“I have built up to three-and-a-half hours so far and next week plan to build up towards four-and-a-half to five hours. I am both excited to have such a challenge and nervous because it’s a huge one.
“But when I think of all the members who’ve told me about their families that have been treated by Phyllis Tuckwell and the money that I will raise for them, this is what drives me on. I would like to smash £1,000 for them but we shall see” said Rachael.
“I have chosen Phyllis Tuckwell as I am the charity rep of The Holiday Inn Farnborough and Spirit Health Club Farnborough. I asked on Twitter and Facebook, as well as health club members, and it was a resounding vote for Phyllis Tuckwell, so chatting with Jane Standing, general manager of the hotel, and we agreed on Phyllis Tuckwell as our local charity of the year to support, and hearing all the stories from members I am glad we have.”
