PUPILS at Anstey Junior School were served up a treat when Masterchef winner Jane Devonshire helped them.
Year six pupils wanted to create a topic focused on food for which they would do some cooking, taste unusual foods and meet a real chef – so teacher Emily South contacted Mrs Devonshire, who was delighted to get involved.
The pupils then wrote to her to share ideas such as: cooking a roast dinner for their parents, baking brownies and tasting lobster and kangaroo. And last week Mrs Devonshire, from Medstead, helped them tick all of their boxes. The day began with an assembly during which pupils asked her about her experience on the popular TV cookery show.
Then they were helped to bake tasty brownies and blondies and make fruit smoothies for their healthy play-time snacks.
Then, back in the classroom it was all hands on deck to prepare a delicious roast dinner for 30 parents and grandparents.
The lunch was enjoyed by all and the children’s relatives said they were very proud of what the children had achieved.
As a surprise treat Mrs Devonshire cooked a pair of lobsters donated by Fish for Thought and some kangaroo meat for the pupils to taste.
For the children involved it certainly proved a day to remember.
