WAVERLEY’S new mayor, Hale and Heath End councillor Denise Le Gal, has chosen to support ABF The Soldiers’ Charity during her mayoral year.

In her induction speech Mrs Le Gal, who was first elected to the borough council in 2007 and has previously served on Surrey County Council’s cabinet, vowed to do her best to serve the office and the residents of Waverley.

Of her choice of charity, she said: “2018 is the centenary year of the First World War and I felt it was important to choose a charity that gives support to soldiers, veterans and their families.

“They do amazing work and help those involved in all the campaigns and wars of the last century.”

In her role as mayor, Mrs Le Gal, who is also currently chair of the Brunel Pension Partnership and the LGA’s Local Government Pension Committee, will attend a wide variety of engagements, acting as an ambassador for the council.

She added: “The last month has been a whirlwind. I have had the pleasure of attending a number of events across the borough including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award with students from the Weydon Multi Academy Trust in Haslemere, attended by HRH The Earl of Wessex. It is going to be an exciting and interesting year.”
