More than 180 people, who selflessly give up their time to benefit others, attended the event, held in the hall at Charterhouse School in Godalming on Thursday, October 22.
All councillors were asked to nominate people working for charities, voluntary groups and not-for-profit organisations to attend the reception.
Guests included volunteers from Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham, the Poppy Appeal, the Friends of Farnham Park, the Waverley tenants’ panel, Walks For Health, Surrey Youth Games, Meals on Wheels, village and community care groups and many more.
They enjoyed a grand tea with sandwiches and delicious home-made cakes before the mayor gave a speech celebrating their contributions.
He said after the reception: “It was a real honour to meet with so many amazing volunteers. Without these people, who provide many vital support services throughout Waverley, the borough would simply not be the same great place it is today.
“I felt very inspired after hearing many of their stories. Thank you to all who came and I do hope that you will continue your excellent work.”
