HASLEMERE mayor David Round will be putting his heart and sole into his last fundraiser for his nominated charities.

Keen to do a long-distance walk with a difference, Mr Round is stepping out on May 6 to complete 56 miles of the Greensand Way in Surrey – from Limpsfield to Haslemere - barefoot!

Mr Round said: “The distance is more than two marathons and I am walking it barefoot, which has surprised some. It is purely to raise the profile of the walk – anyone can walk, but to do it barefoot increases the challenge. It will take me four to five days.

“The walk is to raise funds for the mayor’s charities, including the autism project being run by Haslemere Museum. Having a child on the autistic spectrum is a real challenge for families and special openings by Haslemere Museum for quiet periods will help autistic children and also provide respite for their parents and carers.

“I have an autistic grandchild in Kent, and understand how much of a burden it can be.”
