THE Mayor of Waverley has conveyed his sympathies to the victims of last Tuesday's terrorist attack on America.
Michael Goodridge said: "I know I speak for the people of Waverley when I say that we were appalled by the tragic loss of life which was occasioned by the terrorist outrage on Tuesday morning in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
"Our thoughts and prayers go to our friends in America who lost their lives, who have been injured and those whose lives will never be the same again because of the bereavements suffered.
"Waverley enjoys historic links with America through Godalming's association with General Oglethorpe who founded the state of Georgia and we often welcome friends and distant cousins from America.
"This terrorist action serves to remind us how the world is now very much a 'global village' in so many ways, that we all share the same risks of terrorism.
"We send our condolences to the president and the people of America."
