At the meeting, chairman Michael A’Bear said that he had been honoured to lead Farnham U3A for the last three years during which time numbers had grown considerably, as had the number of groups and learning opportunities for members.
Currently there are about 1,200 members and 100 groups covering sports and fitness, languages, history, crafts, the arts, music and many others.
U3A is a nationwide organisation offering a chance for people no longer in full-time work, or with full-time responsibility for children to get together socially and to keep their brains active. Membership costs just £35 per year and this entitles members to attend as many groups as they wish.
After his three years as chairman, Michael A’Bear handed over to Sue Willson, the vice-chairman Gordon Barnett passed his role over to Jo Watson and the secretary Bernard Whelan to Mary Williams.
Michael asked members to consider ways to accommodate a larger membership as there are still a number of people who have not yet enjoyed the benefits of the U3A.
