THE Mayor and Mayoress of Farnham, John and Gillian Ward, demonstrated keen support for the Farnham branch of the RNLI by attending one of its recruitment evenings.

They met the Farnham RNLI fundraising team together with Laura Excell, from RNLI headquarters, and ‘Cub’, a real lifeboatman from the Chiswick Lifeboat Station, both of whom had come to talk about their work in support of the event at the Conservative Club in Ivy Lane.

More than 8,600 people were rescued and 400 lives were saved by the RNLI in 2016, from boats at sea, from inland waterways and from the beaches.

The RNLI is entirely run and funded by volunteer effort, and the Farnham branch committee is keen to welcome new members to help raise much needed funds for this worthwhile charity.
