WHEN the bell rang at Eggar’s School on a Monday morning this month there was a noisy welcome for Alton mayor Pam Jones, who officially opened two new cycle shelters.
Many students cycled to school ringing their bells as they approached the impressive new home for their bikes. The first 50 cyclists won a helmet lock and enjoyed a free breakfast.
There was also a Highway Code competition with more prizes to be won.
The school secured the funding for the £22,000 project from Hampshire County Council by taking part in online travel-to-school surveys.
The money has paid for two cycles shelters in different parts of the school, one for 10 and one for 40 bikes. The larger shelter is lockable with a key code entry system.
