FARNHAM-based Stellar Gymnastics is thrilled as two club members won silver and bronze at this year’s British Vets 2016 – the pinnacle of adult gymnastics.

The championships which took place this year at Lilleshall National Sports Centre is open to anyone over the age of 18, with competitors entering solo or as part of a team.

Louise Horton and Hannah Fox of Stellar Gymnastics secured silver and bronze in their categories.

“It was an amazing day and to be honest a bit of a surprise. We both wanted a top 10 finish, top five at absolute best, so a second and third in over the 18s’ intermediate category was just incredible,” said Hannah.

“We’d picked up nine medals in the last two friendly adult competitions we’d done earlier in the year, so we felt we could do well, but the standard at the British Veterans Championships is very high seeing competitors from all over the UK.

“The gymnastics on show in Rio has been astounding and while our teams may not have medalled, their performances are a credit to the changes British gymnastics has implemented recently.”

Hannah believes that adult gymnastics is about celebrating what each individual can do and that it is for all abilities, so while competitors may not be performing the difficult skills shown off by Olympic gymnast Max Whitlock, it is still “very impressive” to see adults displaying their skills.

Louise and Hannah begun their gymnastic journey at the age of 10 and are still very much in love with the sport.

Hannah continued: “We seem to win more medals now than we did as kids so perhaps we were destined to be adult gymnasts.

“It is so lovely that we can still compete together and adult competitions are very friendly so you get to know everyone which takes the pressure off.

“Charlie Launder who won the gold (of East London Gym) is a good friend of ours so it was great to share the podium with her.”

Stellar Gymnastics is planning to start running adult gymnastics classes later in the year.

To take part participants must be aged 18 and over - for more information email the team at [email protected].
