THE medieval Tilford Packhouse Bridge, a Scheduled Ancient Monument built by medieval Cistercian monks from Waverley Abbey, will be repaired as part of a £23m flood action plan in Surrey. The 13th Century Tilford landmark is among 39 river crossings being fixed, as Surrey County Council continues to tackle severe highway damage caused by last winter's devastating flooding of the Wey, the Mole, and the Thames. Other bridges which will get structural repairs as part of the £2m revamp include Sir Edwin Lutyens' Hampton Court Bridge. Last week, Surrey County Council chairman David Munro officially reopened Guildford and Onslow bridges, the first bridges to have their repairs completed since the flooding.
