LOCAL residents are being given the opportunity to learn more about plans for the possible expansion of the Meadow Special School.

Representatives from Hampshire County Council have been invited to the north east area community committee meeting on Tuesday, September 18, to inform local people about the county's plans for the reorganisation of special schools in East Hampshire.

Assistant county education officers George Heller, Sheila Arney and strategic planner Glenn Parkinson will outline the proposals currently being considered by the county council to amalgamate the Bordon school with Whitedown Special School in Alton, creating one larger special school for the district.

The county council is due to decide later this month whether to publish statutory notices proposing the change.

If there are no objections to the formal proposals, then the proposals would have to be submitted to the school reorganisation committee for approval.

Vice-chairman of the area community committee Anna James said: "It is most important that people with an interest in special needs education come along and make sure their views are heard."
