CLUBS, charities and community groups will be able to hear the latest plans for new and redeveloped sports and leisure facilities in the town tomorrow.
The Forest Community Centre, in Bordon, will host groups which provide all kinds of activities.
The free evening meeting is part of a programme of events led by the charity Community First for the Whitehill and Bordon Community Network.
The network aims to help groups to get to know each other, to share resources and to work better in partnership for the benefit of residents.
“There is a huge variety of charitable and community leisure and sport providers in the town,” said Claire Coxwell, a Whitehill and Bordon community development worker with Community First. “Small informal walking groups, exercise classes for the elderly, football clubs for youngsters and trampoline activities for those with special needs are just some of the services being offered.
“These organisations are often run by volunteers in their own time and provide an important and valuable contribution to the local community.
“These local sports and leisure groups want to hear about the opportunities available to them as the town changes so that they too can develop and grow.”
During the event, attendees will hear from developers and other regeneration partners about: the new leisure centre planned for the town; the strategy for provision of sports pitches; leisure facilities which may be offered by the new secondary school, and plans for open spaces such as the Hogmoor Inclosure.
Speakers confirmed to date are: representatives from Community First, East Hampshire District Council, Hampshire County Council, Sport and Leisure Management Ltd (the recently announced new leisure centre management company), the Whitehill and Bordon Regeneration Company and Whitehill Town Council.
Following the presentations, representatives from organisations can network with other voluntary leisure providers; talk to the speakers on a one-to-one basis, and find out about support available from the sports-development officer at the district council.
Places are limited and booking is essential. E-mail [email protected] or call her on 07467 941003. The event runs from 7pm-9pm.
