A FARNHAM runner is taking part in the Fleet Half Marathon later month in memory of his father-in-law and long-serving Rangers Furnishing Stores employee Terry Maguire.
Trevor Bowden is raising money for the Time Garden at Frimley Park Hospital, a garden and lodge which the family used in the final days of Terry’s life.
Terry passed away in the Time Garden lodge on January 6, just a day after his 82nd birthday.
His daughter, Jacqueline Bowden, said: “My dad was a very keen gardener and for him to be able to open his eyes and see plants and the sky from his hospital bed gave him a sense of peace in his last days.
“We really want to raise money for it and raise its profile as we feel it could be used by so many more people who would benefit from it like we did.
“If it hadn’t been for palliative care nurse Karen Hooperat Frimley Park, who told us about it we would never have known.”
After moving from Godalming to Farnham in 1975 with his wife Barbara, Terry remained living locally and worked in Rangers Furnishing Stores in West Street up until his retirement in 2000.
In fact, this is how Jacqueline met her husband Trevor, who now also works there.
Trevor has already exceeded his target of raising £250 and is now hoping to raise as much as possible in support of the garden when he runs on March 18.
Jacqueline continued: “The Time Garden was like a little oasis to us in the midst of such a difficult and sad time.
“This gave dad and his family space away from a busy hospital ward to spend the last few hours alone together.
