A ONE-man campaign to erect a permanent memorial to three RAF airmen killed in a wartime plane crash over Haslemere in 1942 was celebrated in style on Saturday.
Haslemere man Mick Bradford was determined to honour the memories of the three brave men, who lost their lives when their plane crashed near the old Rex Cinema, at Wey Hill. He has spent many months tracking down their identities.
Their names, hitherto unrecorded, are now inscribed on a plaque commissioned by Mr Bradford, which was unveiled on September 22 – the 70th anniversary of the date of their death – near to the site of the crash.
