THE Farnham Fundraising Group for Marie Curie started the year in celebratory mood; just before Christmas 2017, they reached a milestone in their fundraising.
Formed at the end of 2014, the group has raised £50,000 for Marie Curie, the charity that offers care and support to people with terminal illness and their families.
Thanks to the generosity of Farnham people, and the tireless support of many volunteers, the group has reached this target through a combination of activities.
They have hosted street collections, and placed boxes of daffodils in local businesses – shops, pubs, clubs, dentists - and many more locations.
They have also baked hundreds of cakes, for tea parties and bake sales, and devised family-friendly games to play at events around the area, such as summer and Christmas fayres, village fetes and carnivals.
Highlights include two concerts that were very well supported and there is another one in the pipeline for 2018.
Linda Lawrence, the group’s chairman, said: ‘We are over the moon to have reached this target in just three years. It goes to show how very generous Farnham people are when it comes to supporting charity.
“You may have seen us in our bright yellow hats out collecting, or selling tea, coffee and cakes at local events.
“We’d like to thank each and every one of the people who have donated money, attended one of our events, or stood out in the cold holding a tin for us. It has been a real team effort.”
The group will be out and about in Farnham again during March for the ‘Great Daffodil Appeal.’ Their next concert, on Saturday, May 12. at the United Reformed Church in South Street, will be a medley of musical styles.
More details will be available soon.
