THE National Farmers Union (NFU) is calling for action after the announcement of more "catastrophic" milk price cuts which will leave most dairy farmers struggling.

The NFU has condemned the latest round of cuts after three major dairy processors, who supply fresh liquid milk to the UK marketplace, issued notice of an average 2p per litre cut to producers from August 1.

It comes on top of a cut in April and could result in a deficit between milk price and production cost of around £53,000 a year for liquid suppliers.
