STAFF and students at Mill Chase Community Technology College are celebrating a recent government report into the summer exam results. The report, which was received by the school last week, show that Mill Chase is among the best schools in the county, and indeed in the country. Headteacher Steve Mulcahy said: "We are really pleased with the progress of our students. At both key stages three and four, they have exceeded all expectations. "The performance of our GCSE students places us in the top 20 per cent of schools in the country and students who took their SATs did so well, their performance ranks them in the top four per cent of schools in the country. Put simply, this is quite outstanding. "Looking in more detail at some of the results, it is clear how impressive the school is performing. At key stage three for instance, our performance in English places us in the top 14 per cent of schools nationally. "In maths we are in the top seven per cent and in science, we are in the top two per cent of schools." These results from the Fisher Family Trust report are based on a value-added measure which looks at student's prior performance and analyses the rate of progress they make through secondary school. Staff at the school are awaiting further Government analysis of performance, but it is hoped that further results will show the performance of students at Mill Chase is above that of most other schools. Mr Mulcahy added: "One of the mantras we use at Mill Chase, and which students have really bought into, is that we want to be 'the best school in Hampshire'. These exam results mean we are now competing against the very highest performing schools in the county and gaining ourselves a national reputation." Year 10 students, Holly Gardner and Ollie Copplestone said: "We both agree that these results are really impressive and that the school has moved a long way forward in the last few years. Mill Chase is going from strength to strength and we feel proud to be part of these achievements."
