LOVELY Lowder Mill in Bell Vale Lane, Haslemere, opens again to the public under the National Garden Scheme on Saturday and Sunday, June 3 and 4.

It is now 15 years since Anne and John Denning moved there and transformed the garden, as well as renovating the 17th-century mill.

The listed house and former mill, pictured, date back more than 300 years, are set in three acres of garden, of which almost one acre is the former mill pond, served by natural streams, and the smaller ponds, streams and waterfalls that flow through it.

This will be the 13th consecutive year that the garden has been open, and over the years more than £70,000 has been raised for the National Garden Scheme charities.

In early June, the irises adjoining the lower pond will be in full bloom, wild orchids spring up everywhere, and the primulas planted around the lakeside walk are quite a feature.

Lowder Mill’s afternoon tea has also gained quite a reputation, being served on vintage china, overlooking the lake and featuring a vast selection of home made cakes and dainty sandwiches. Visitors may spot the resident kingfishers swooping over the water.

There will be a well-stocked plant stall and a choir will petform on Sunday morning.

• Lowder Mill is open from 11am to 5.30pm on Saturday and 10.30am to 5.30pm on Sunday. Entry is £4.50 (adult) and £2 (child). For more information visit www.lowdermill.com.
