PETERSFIELD breathed a sigh of relief on Monday morning after the storm which threatened to cut a swathe of devastating damage through Hampshire and West Sussex left most of the area unscathed.

While the "worst storm in a decade" left people under threat from fallen trees, structural damage was minimal and a paralysed rail service and power cuts were arguably the biggest headaches.

Most of the damage in the aftermath of the storm, which began on Sunday and continued into the early hours of Monday, was caused by trees blocking or partially blocking roads.
