NEARLY 40,000 visitors observed a minute’s silence in memory of the 11 victims of the Shoreham Air Show crash, at the 2015 Wings & Wheels show on Saturday and Sunday.
The Hawker Hunter vintage jet fighter that crashed on to the A27 in the worst UK air show disaster in living memory was due to appear on both days at Dunsfold Aerodrome.
The record attendance at this year’s Dunsfold event caused major traffic problems on Saturday when there was a mass exodus due to the rain at around 4.30pm, after the Red Arrows display.
Some showgoers waited more than two hours to exit the airfield due to the lengthy queues of traffic.
A Wings & Wheels spokesman said: “We had widely publicised that 4pm to 6pm is peak exit time for the car park. Unfortunately, when the Red Arrows display finished and the rain started 75 per cent of the audience all left at 4.30pm which
caused the congestion.
"We will continue to look at a variety of measures to do what we can to improve the flow on and off site for next year’s show.”
