THREE men from Petersfield have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the disappearance of a 29-year-old man, also from the town, earlier this month. Fears are growing for Danny Matthews of Chapel Street, who was last seen at around midnight on Saturday, June 3, outside The Market Inn on The Square. And as The Herald went to press, police were searching the properties of three men - two 46- year-olds and one 42-year-old - who were all arrested on Tuesday. They are currently assisting police with their enquiries at Lyndhurst police station in the New Forest. Detectives from Hampshire Constabulary's major- crime department are now investigating the disappearance and are asking anyone with any information to come forward. The missing man is described as white, 5 ft 8 ins tall, with a slim build, pale complexion and long, mousey-coloured hair. He was wearing a silver hooped earring in his left ear. Detective Chief Inspector Colin Mathews said: "I am keen to speak to anyone who has any information about the whereabouts of Danny Matthews. "Did you see Danny or anyone matching his description in Petersfield on the evening of Saturday, June 3? Do you have any other information that may assist our enquiry? "If you think you have any information that might help our investigation, please get in touch." Police say they were alerted to the disappearance of Mr Matthews, a labourer living with friends in Chapel Street, after enquiries from his friends and family. A police spokesman said: "We are keeping an open mind at the moment, but his family and friends say this is not his usual behaviour. "The major-crime department is following all lines of enquiry. "As far as we know, there were no suspicious incidents on the night (when he was last seen). "The houses of the people who have been arrested are being searched at the moment." Police were unable to supply a picture of Mr Matthews. Anyone who has any information regarding the incident should contact the Operation Nakata incident room on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
