CONTROVERSIAL plans to close a level crossing north of Petersfield have been showcased at a village hall.

But a cancellation means that some people in Sheet are still waiting to have their say on the future on the School Lane crossing.

Representatives from Network Rail held a drop-in event in Steep on Tuesday to outline their plans for the crossing.

The organisation wants to replace the road crossing with a pedestrian footbridge as part of a wider scheme to improve railway safety.

Another option is to upgrade the safety barriers to full length, but this would greatly increase waiting times either side of the railway.
