A JD Wetherspoon plan to renovate and trade from Ivy

House and Oceanic House in Alton has met with a mixed response.

While some have welcomed the opportunity to see the landmark buildings brought back into use, others fear an outlet selling drink at knock-down prices will cause an increase in drink-related problems and hit other pubs.

Following an exhibition at Alton Community Centre

last Thursday by Signet Planning on behalf of JD

Wetherspoon, an online petition has been launched,

urging Alton Town Council to fight the proposal which

attracted 250 signatures in the first few hours.
