ALTON Model Railway Group is holding its annual Febex exhibition at Eggar’s School next weekend, on the theme of ‘Making Tracks’.

Open from 10.30am-5pm on Saturday, February 4, and from 10.30am-4pm on Sunday, February 5, there will be 14 layouts operating in most scales and gauges.

On Saturday morning, the exhibition will be opened by Bob Treacher, the previous owner of Alton Model Centre. He will also judge the best layout at the exhibition, and in the afternoon present the Railway Modeller Shield to the winning layout.

Visitors will also be able to peruse the 14 trade and sales stands, among them Kernow Model Rail Centre, Squires Model and Craft Tools, Kent Garden Railways, Joe Lock, AAR Models, Coastal DCC, Ron Lines, and Kytes Lights.

In line with the theme of ‘Making Tracks’, this year there will be a number of presentations and demonstrations covering all aspects of model track work, including choosing the right track, electrical connections, track laying, painting, and ballasting.

Plus there will be demonstrations of loco and rolling stock construction by Ron Neal, David Cole, and Andrew Cooper.

As in previous years, for visitors arriving by train, there will be a free bus service provided by the Aldershot and District Bus Preservation Society. Passengers boarding at Alton railway station will travel to the exhibition via Alton Model Centre and the town centre.

Refreshments will be available throughout, there is free parking available and easy access for wheelchairs, with help provided if required.

Admission to Febex is £4.50 for adults, free for accompanied children under 16.
